“Living on the same street” is the third album by Johannes Wallmark and was recorded as a live session at the legendary Swedish studio Atlantis with his band the Wildflowers.
“It was a wonderful experience” recalls Wallmark, “just the fact that artists like Quincy Jones, Elvis Costello, Lenny Kravitz, ABBA, Roxette and the Cardigans have been there before me makes it even greater. You can feel the history in the walls. This album is a little bit more back to basics than before. The idea was to record everything like they did 30 years ago – we used a string ensemble instead of synthesizers and everything was played live on tape as a band”.
Johannes Wallmark grew up in a small town in the south of Sweden, the son of two schoolteachers. He first learned to play the drums and trumpet, then later got his first guitar at the age of 14. Wallmark counts Bob Dylan, The Band, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and the Counting Crows as his main influences.
He attended University in the US, graduated as a sound engineer and began working as a producer for other artists. In 2003 Grammy nominated producer/mixer Ollie Olsson (Meja, Eagle-Eye Cherry, and Christian Walz) teamed up with Wallmark to make his debut album “69 Oakdale”. It became album of the month on Radio Stockholm and his single “All my love” was played on Swedish and American radio.
In 2005 Wallmark went back into the studio to record 12 new songs. This time with producer Stefan Ekstedt and mixer Pontus Olsson (Ulf Lundell, Per Gessle, Uno Sveningsson and Wilmer X).
Wallmark and his second album “Akron Ohio” became a challenger in the largest evening paper Aftonbladet as one of the the hottest things in Sweden. That same paper wrote: “I truly like everything about Johannes Wallmark & the Wildflowers. Just naming the album ‘Akron Ohio’! Got to check him out! The single ‘Falling down’ is Petty/Byrds-nice and as good as they come”.
Wallmark’s first single “Falling Down” was picked up by radio in Sweden, Finland, Germany and United States. He was highlighted in Export Music Sweden as Hear the sounds of Sweden and his album became record of the day in the British music industry.
